#1 - Adventure on your own terms
You can dive, surf, paddle board, or just chill on your own terms. No one is hurrying you along, no one is pushing you off a wave, no one is watching you, no one is competing with you.
Take your time, learn, try again, hone your skills, your pop, go fast or slow, up to you. There is no pressure to perform here.
#2 - The sisterhood factor
There are other adventurous solo women in the area. Some live here, some pass through, but here we are! There is a Whatsapp group for events and socials in the area, and you'll find these women often sitting at Bukito, on the beach, diving, surfing, enjoying life. Join the merry crew!
#3 - The hidden gem factor
Still off-the-beaten-path, no mass tourism around. Only for the curious, the explorers, the seekers of authentic experiences. This pulls in a specific kind of type of a traveller. The kind we like.
#4 - A place to breath in

Instead of tourist traps of Bali and Lombok, you find community-based tourism here. Village markets, tenun weaving, community projects, clean ups, conservation projects...Stories from people who live here, who are proud of their land and their sea.
#6 - Year round destination
West Sumbawa gets only half of the rain fall of Bali during wet season. Waves are still ride-able (actually even better for longboarding if you are a longboard gal), and diving is great almost the full year (exception of mid Jan-end of Feb, but even then some dive sites are still decent).
If you are slow travelling, stay here for a bit during the quiet season. Really get to know the ins and outs of Sumbawa and Kertasari. Become part of the community.
#7 - The Digital Nomad factor
Even though Sumbawa is off the grid, you can absolutely work remotely from Kertasari. A co-working space at Living on Air, or cafe spot at Bukito, are great places with great internet to get some work done at.
#8 - The safety factor
Sumbawa is suuuuuper safe. Truly one of the safest places you can visit. You will get curious stares, for sure, but that is all they are: curious. Locals are warm, welcoming, and they got your back.
Lack of party scene also plays into the general laid back, chill and safe vibe.
